I miss you around this place

In the dead of the night
I thought I felt your touch and looked to see your face
Everything is all right
But I admit that I miss you around this place

Can you hear what I say
I catch a glimpse from the corner of my eye
I never was one to pray
But I pray to you looking up at the sky

So do you think it will rain
Do you think it will open up and cry
And don’t you think that it’s strange
That the world goes on after we die

I can see the attraction
To a god and an endless afterlife
A chemical reaction
I’m not a candle you blow out in the night

But I can not understand
I once was able to reconcile with change
Our dreams and all of our plans
Is this the substance of all that now remains

So tell me what did you say
Do you remember discussions that we had
It’s like a scene from a play
I only remember the good, forget the bad

And do you think it will rain
Do you think it will open up and cry
And don’t you think that it’s strange
That the world goes on after we die

Tell me do you think it will rain
Do you think it will open up the sky
And don’t you think that it’s strange
We never had a chance to say goodbye

Going Back

I went home
Nobody knew that I was there
Yeah I went home
Nobody knew and no one cared
You know that living in the city
Puts that blues rhythm in my ear

Yeah I went down
I doubt I even made a sound
I went down down down
Don’t think I even made a sound
Yeah I went down to the country
Cause I’m tired of all this hanging around

I’m going back
I’m going back where I belong
I’m going back back back
And driver don’t you take too long
I’m going back to my baby
Gonna sing me a happier song

Well I’m going to the country
Where they play those rhythm and blues
Yeah I’m going to the country
Cause I ain’t got nothing to lose
I’m gonna win back my woman
Hear another man singing the blues

Faces

On the first day I met her at the pool
I was sporting Maui Jim’s, I was looking so cool
I asked her if she’d watch my things just while I went for a swim
It didn’t seem much at the time but was a place to begin

Well I don’t know you and you don’t know me
But the mutual attraction is enough to proceed
I’ve had enough of expectations and I’m sure you’d agree
That the dating situation leaves a lot to be seen

On the second day I met her at the club
She was dancing with her friends and singing songs of love
I bought her drink after drink and snogged her all night long
And wondered what she thought of me or if I’m rubbing her wrong

Because I don’t know you and you don’t know me
But the mutual attraction grows mysteriously
I find it hard to guess your game and girl I’m sure you’d agree
That if I don’t know who you are how do I know how to be

Well we put on these faces, ones that everyone likes
And we wear the trendy clothes and behave overly nice
But when we take off those faces tell me what do you see
A person that you think will do or just debauchery

So some weeks went past with nothing much to say
But the e-mails back and forth continued every day
When we finally got together much to our surprise
We found the person underneath we’d looked for all of our lives

And now I truly see you and you truly see me
Because the mutual attraction goes beyond what we see
As our faces take a turn I think you’ll have to agree
That the dating situation leaves a lot to be seen

Trouble

It’s a crazy world we live in. A crazy life we lead
And the troubles that we face each day to get just what we need
I find are easier to handle, much faster to proceed
When I remember words of wisdom that my folks passed down to me

Never pay the workman until the work is through
Never draw conclusions when you haven’t got a clue
Never use a pound when half a pound will do
And never trouble trouble till trouble troubles you

Well the chaos and confusion that we pass along the way
Tends to build the wanton memories that worry us each day
Don’t forget that the objective is to smile, sing and play
And recall those words of wisdom that I sing to you today

Never pay the workman until the work is through
Never draw conclusions when you haven’t got a clue
Never use a pound when half a pound will do
And never trouble trouble till trouble troubles you

Relevant Development

There was a train - there was a train
And the train went past, wasn't going very fast
As the day went by like a cloud across the sky

That brings us rain - a gentle rain
It brings a drop of life amongst the struggle and the strife
The surface breaks and through it pops the seed we put into it

Growing slow - all life to grow
It grows from deep inside procuring dreams along the ride
Advancing slow and strong within this world where we belong

Without a hurry, but many worries
That pass us all in time as the sun will always shine
And the train rolls past just like the next one and the last

Falling

I'm falling, and my world is spinning round and round
I'm falling, slightly faster than the speed of sound
I'm dreaming, of the time my life will slip away
And I'm dreaming, that tomorrow is another day
But I know, there's nothing to do about it now
And I know, it doesn't matter anyhow
I'm falling, and my world is spinning round and round
I'm falling, I should be dead before I hit the ground

Seagull

When she sees him again, she truly hopes that they'll be friends
and though the feelings still remain, the situations have all changed
and the man she used to know, he hasn't changed much but he's grown old,
and never learned the meanings behind the feelings grown cold.
And she asks him why, why oh why, be like a seagull falling from the sky,
but he seeks to find out what it means and so he drifts about in a maze of dreams.

If you ever think of me, don't forget the levity
we once possessed when we were young, and our songs were yet unsung
and like the carving on the tree which grew so tall we could not see
that they had turned the page, and switched the stage, act and scene.
And she asks him why, why oh why, be like a seagull falling from the sky,
but he seeks to find out what it means and spends all his days in his world of dreams.

Just to pass the time away, a man walked out his door one day
he saw a seagull way up high and aimed his gun up toward the sky
and the seagull he did fall just as someday we know that we must all
and our memory may never be recalled.
And so she asks him why, why oh why, be like the seagull falling from the sky,
And so she asks him why, why oh why, be like the seagull falling from the sky.

The Programmers Blues

I can't stand another day of this
only 7 o'clock and here I be
just 9 more hours of taking shit
stuck inside a cell build just for me.
And while the urges soar from my inner drives
air, wind and motions all call out for me
I need the light of day just to be alive
this isn't the place that I'm supposed to be.
And yet these winter days are the worst of all
as the days get shorter it's much harder to see
dark at departure, dark when I withdraw
not even a shadow to comfort me.
I've got the programmers blues
I've got the programmers blues
While the days pass by that I never will see
just a line of code inside a cell, here I be.

Something in the air

There is something in the air
And everyone's aware that there is something in the air
And everything's apparently renewed within my eyes, cast off their disguise,
stripped of their defense and making perfect sense
And there is something I must say
Every little movement you make carries me away
And every time I think of it revives me for a while, and I begin to smile,
I've something more to say, as I begin to play
Today it felt like Saturday
Today I saw a child at play
I saw a woman smile at me
And walk the road in front of me
I didn't find a tragedy
Or criticize how blind I'd be
I simply smiled and looked around
and I knew in that moment that the world goes round and round
casting shadows on the ground
stealing visions from our eyes
masking treasures in disguise
simple songs cry out each day
while sunny skies they light the way
and we see it in the children's eyes
and we hear it in their lullabies
that the world is just the same
as we wake up each day and we do it all again
And you said "oh, hold me through the night"
"promise me dear that it'll be alright"
cause tonight the clouds will cover us
the sound they play is thunderous
but storms they bring will wash away
the dust that builds up every day
and when it's done the sun will shine
and we'll wash away the sleepiness from the skies
And then you'll see that there is something in the air
And everyone's aware that there is something in the air
And everything's apparently renewed within my eyes, cast off their disguise,
stripped of their defense and making perfect sense
And there is something I must say
Every little movement you make carries me away
And every time I think of it revives me for a while, and I begin to smile,
I've nothing more to say, you carry me away.
